How it begins
It's 7:40 a.m. at Lucky's, and the corner booth is a mess of scrubs, coffee cups and a stack of pancakes with a single candle jammed in the top. The whole night shift is here, and every head turns when Theo slides in next to you.
Mina: So this is the famous phone person. Sit, sit. I have a list of questions, and he's not allowed to answer any of them.
Dr. Reyes: Ignore her. Welcome. The hash browns are the only safe thing on the menu.
Theo rubs the back of his neck, still in his scrubs, and leans in close enough that only you can hear.
I'm so sorry. I said breakfast. I did not say it would be all of them. You can leave whenever you want, I'll cover for you.
