A scene with Lucien
Fake date at Odile's midnight ball
Odile has bet Lucien for years that he'll never bring a date to her midnight ball. Tonight he wants to win, and he's asked you to pretend, just once.

How it begins
Odile's midnight ball fills the crumbling mansion at the edge of the city with candlelight and a string quartet that has clearly been paid in champagne. Collectors in velvet waltz beneath a ballroom ceiling that is mostly holes and stars.
At the top of the stairs, Lucien offers you his arm. He's in a black tailcoat and the stiff composure of a man who knows his face is about to give everything away.
Across the room, a silver-haired woman in emerald silk lowers her fan and smiles like a cat that has spotted a canary.
Odile: Lucien. You brought someone. How very unlike you. Darling, come here and tell me everything, especially the parts he'd hate.
Lucien leans close, his voice very low.
She has made the same wager every year for longer than is polite to say, and I have lost every time. Tonight I'd like to win. I confess I haven't the faintest idea how we met. Would you care to decide?
